Deadline Jul 16 2021 14:00 (MDT)
Description

Welcome to the application for the Sundance Institute | Stars Collective Granting Fund. The Sundance Institute | Stars Collective Granting Fund is a cross-programmatic fund supporting Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) and women filmmakers working on fiction and nonfiction projects that are currently being supported by the Sundance Institute through our labs and granting programs. (Sorry, this application is not open to our alumni community.) The fund provides non-recoupable grants for rapid response and urgent project advancement to help work progress to the next stage. Grants ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 aim to provide critical support to advance projects at various stages of their life cycles, from advanced development to pre-production through launch. This can include requesting support to further development, extend post-production, attend festivals and forums, hire key creative team members (consulting editors, producers, casting directors, etc.), cover COVID-related costs, or provide self-distribution support.

We appreciate your time and effort toward the application process, and we salute you on your independent filmmaking journey.

This is a rolling application, and you may submit anytime during your filmmaking journey. Sundance Institute staff, along with an external advisor, will be making funding decisions on a bi-monthly basis through August 2021.

Eligibility criteria:

  • BIPOC and women  Sundance Institute–supported artists with a project currently receiving support from either the Feature Film Program or the Documentary Film Program

  • All career stages

  • Priority will be given to U.S.-based filmmakers

  • Open to all storytelling formats and lengths that have been supported through Sundance Institute lab and granting programs (fiction, nonfiction)

  • Projects with a specific identified need

  • Project where a grant between $1,500 and $10,000 would fund the majority of the intended activity proposed, or where the additional funds for the activity have already been confirmed.

What are we looking for?

  • Sundance Institute-supported projects at any stage (development, pre-production, production, post-production, or distribution/festival launch)

  • Projects for which a small amount of funding can be catalytic

  • Projects encountering unforeseen costs associated with COVID

  • Active projects being supported through a lab, grant, fellowship, or intensive

  • A discreet activity that is achievable with the funds provided

WHAT WILL I NEED IN ORDER TO APPLY?
